The tile calculation formula
- Room area = Room length × Room width
- Tiles needed = (Room area ÷ single tile area) × (1 + wastage allowance)
- Boxes to order = Tiles needed ÷ tiles per box, rounded up
The wastage allowance covers cutting waste around edges, corners and obstacles, plus breakage — 10% is a common default for a simple rectangular room, but irregular room shapes, diagonal tile patterns, or a room with many corners and cutouts should use a higher allowance (15-20%).
