How this WiFi coverage estimate works

WiFi access point count depends on total floor area, number of floors (since signal doesn't pass through concrete slabs well), the density of your walls, and how demanding your usage is. This calculator estimates a baseline coverage radius per access point and adjusts it for wall construction common in UAE villas and offices, then divides your total area accordingly.

Why concrete walls are the real culprit behind WiFi dead zones

UAE villas are typically built with dense concrete block and rebar reinforcement, which attenuates WiFi signal far more than the drywall common in many router marketing photos and review videos. A single router on the ground floor often simply cannot reach upstairs bedrooms reliably, no matter how expensive or "powerful" that router claims to be. This is the single most common cause of WiFi dead zones we diagnose during surveys.

Access point placement matters as much as count

Having the "right" number of access points doesn't help if they're placed inside cabinets, behind TVs, or clustered on one side of the property. Central, elevated placement, away from metal objects and large appliances, makes a measurable difference even before adding more hardware. Wired-backbone access points vs consumer mesh systems

Consumer mesh WiFi kits relay signal wirelessly between units, which works reasonably well in open-plan homes but loses significant performance through multiple concrete walls and floors. Access points wired back to a central switch via structured cabling don't suffer this relay penalty, delivering more consistent speed throughout the property. This is why most commercial offices and larger villas we wire use cabled access points rather than pure mesh systems.
